Be on the alert for scams involving names and logos lifted from the City of Holiday Island website. Within the last week, we have had one property owner involved in a $5000 wire transfer scam that supposedly came from our city planning commission. The email address looked similar to the city email address but the URL was different. And the request looked like it came from our planning commission chairperson. The second scam attempt involved a Chinese company that supposedly sells modular homes attempting to get a $7500 down payment from a prospective customer by using what appeared to be a “building permit pre-

approval” from our building inspector. The letterhead looked similar to ours but had a different looking logo. And for whatever reason, they included the former Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurstan’s signature and stamp. It did not come from our building inspector.

DO NOT send any money to anyone claiming to be from the City of Holiday Island without contacting that person for validation. Use the contact information exactly as it appears on the city website. We have or will be reporting these incidents to the Carroll County Sheriff's office as well as the Attorney General.
