Mayor's Message on "The Highlands of Holiday Island" Rumored Development

There has been a lot of concern on the part of property owners about a rumored project for the old Tom Dees property on the Island. A company, JCV Investments LLC, recently purchased approximately 12 acres of land adjacent to Unit 110 and the HISID Sports Complex. The concern centers around a concept paper that was prepared by JCV and presented to the Holiday Island Chamber of Commerce. They were directed by the Chamber to contact the City Planning Commission.

To date, they have talked to the Planning Commission but have not submitted any actual plans prepared by an architectural firm or engineering firm. Nor have they requested an official review of any plans.  And until they do, as far as the city is concerned, there is no plan, and they have no authority to proceed without Planning Commission approval. When the time comes, there are many things to consider, not the least of which would be compatibility with the existing neighborhood, whether or not HISID can and would provide sewer and water, traffic, access for emergency vehicles and more. If a plan is put forward by JCV, the Planning Commission will hold public meetings to review the project and provide opportunity for public comment.

We want to encourage the right kind of development in Holiday Island. The Planning Commission is here to assure that it is done in an organized, orderly manner that is not detrimental to the City or its residents.
